Why Essex Reform Democrats?

Essex Reform Democrats is a group of District Leaders, other allied office holders, and supportive Democratic voters in Essex County who are advocating for increased fairness, transparency, and accountability at the national, state, and local levels.

Described by Senator Andy Kim as a “corruption tax”, machine politics and self-dealing have led to more expensive government services and to policies and legislation that do not assist the average NJ resident nor promote good government.

From new campaign finance rules that have substantially increased the influence of money in state and local politics to rolling back OPRA protections in favor of state agencies and municipalities to no prohibition against party officials having business with the government, we know we as Democrats can do better.

Essex Reform Democrats seeks to foster changes at the state and county levels that will benefit the many and not the few. We seek to: establish rules for Democratic Party that are fair and transparent; assure more participation in the election of state and county party leaders; require bylaws at the municipal level; and prohibit party, state, and county officials from personally profiting off relationships with any government entity.

We believe Essex Reform Democrats can serve as a big tent that makes real progress on building up a New Jersey Democratic party that is a national leader in fairness, transparency, and public service.
